Imam Sadiq Online Seminary offers heartfelt felicitation on 25th of Dhu al-Hijjah, the day of Mubahila
فَمَنْ حَاجَّكَ فِيهِ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَكَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ فَقُلْ تَعَالَوْا نَدْعُ أَبْنَاءَنَا وَأَبْنَاءَكُمْ وَنِسَاءَنَا وَنِسَاءَكُمْ وَأَنْفُسَنَا وَأَنْفُسَكُمْ ثُمَّ نَبْتَهِلْ فَنَجْعَلْ لَعْنَتَ اللَّهِ عَلَى الْكَاذِبِينَ
"Should anyone argue with you concerning him (Jesus), after the knowledge that has come to you, say, 'Come! Let us call our sons and your sons, our women, and your women, our souls, and your souls, then let us pray earnestly and call down Allah's curse upon the liars." (03/61)
This famous verse of Surah Al-Imran is known as "Ayat Mubahila". Shi'a and Sunni exegetes believe that this verse is about the debate between the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) and the Christians of Najran in which they insisted on their idea that Jesus (peace be upon him) is one of the three personifications of God and that they did not accept the revelation of the Qur'an which referred to Jesus (peace be upon him) as merely a pious servant and a messenger of God. Once they rejected the arguments proposed by the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his family), he invited them to attend Mubahala (a mutual curse).
Mubahila means mutual curse. Two individuals or two groups who consider themselves to be right, in the presence of each other invoke God and ask God the Almighty to curse the liar so that it becomes clear to everyone which side is correct.
According to the famous narration, the event of Mubahila took place on the 20th of Dhu al-Hijjah 10 AH. On the morning of Mubahila, the Holy Prophet peace be upon him took the hand of Imam Hasan peace be upon him, who at that time was six years old, carried Imam Husain peace be upon him and called upon Imam Ali and Lady Zahra peace be upon them to accompany him.

This is a special day of victory for Muslims in the history of Islam and that is why it is celebrated.
After the event, the Holy Prophet peace be upon him informed: “By Allah, in Whose hand is my soul, that destruction and ruin had come near the people of Najran. Indeed, this whole valley would have turned into flames of fire for them and not even a bird would have remained on their trees and all Christians would have died within a year.”
Shortly after the return of the Christians to Najran, Sayyid and Aqib (both of whom were present on the day of Mubahila and were the leaders of the Christians) came to the service of the Messenger of Allah with some gifts and donations and became Muslims.

Al-Ma'mun asked Imam al-Rida (peace be upon him) about the greatest merit of Imam 'Ali (peace be upon him) in the Qur'an. Imam said: His merit in the event of Mubahala; the Prophet called al-Hasan and al-Husayn (peace be upon them) who were his sons, he called Fatima (peace be upon her) who was the instance for women in this verse and called 'Ali (peace be upon him) who is, according to divine decree, the soul of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family). There is no creature superior to the Prophet; therefore, based on the divine decree, there must be no creature superior to the soul of the Prophet.
