Imam Sadiq Online Seminary offers heartfelt condolences on the occasion of 5th Safar, the martyrdom anniversary of the daughter of Imam Husain, Lady Ruqayya (peace and blessings of Allah upon her and may Allah curse her killers)

One of the most influential figures in the tragedy of Karbala and the subsequent events is Ruqayyah, the 3-year-old daughter of Imam Husain (peace be upon him). She was Imam Hussein's (A.S) most beloved child. The tragedies that befell this 3year old were so severe that she eventually passed away on the 5th of the Month of Safar, a mere 25days after the martyrdom of her father, Imam Husain ibn Ali (peace be upon them).

Some of the heart wrecking conversations she has with the head of her father sends shivers the heart while also speaks about the height of her understanding of the events. One such conversation is in the ruins of Damascus where the family of Imam Husain (a) was kept as captive. Taking the head of her father and keeping it on her lap she laments;

‘Father! Who stained your face with the blood of your head? Who cut the veins of your throat? Who orphaned me as a child?’

And with these three questions, she reminded everyone of the atrocities committed on the day of Ashura and complained about the oppressors. She then continued,

‘Where shall your beloved daughter seek refuge now? Where should the homeless and the captive women take refuge? What can these eyes do but cry?’

With these words, she complains to her father about the events of captivity and how the enemies broke the sanctity of the household of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny). She continues by saying,

‘What should the oppressed women do after being captured? Who is the refuge for them who had no one but you?’

In it, she speaks of the trouble and oppression brought upon the ladyfolk after the battle of Karbala.

Finally, she ends with these heart-wrenching statements which demonstrate the height of her suffering after the martyrdom of her father and, thereafter she became silent forever. Her last few words were;

‘Dear father! I wish my life was sacrificed for you! I wish I had not seen this day! I wish I had died and did not witness your beard drenched in your blood!

May Allah curse the killers and the oppressors of the Ahlul Bayt.

We ask Allah to hasten the awaited who would avenge the blood of Imam Husain and his household.
