As we commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Sajjad (peace be upon him) one cannot forget the difficult times enforced upon him.

In the plains of Karbala, he saw all his family members being martyred including his father, the Imam of his time, al-Husain (peace be upon him) yet due to illness wasn’t able to do anything. At sunset, he was so ill that when the tents were set ablaze he didn’t have the energy to save himself from the fire, and his aunt Zainab (peace be upon her) saved him.

During the period of captivity, he was the lone male figure with the womenfolk in the cities of Kufa and Damascus and also in the court of the oppressors. That time was so difficult for him that he always remembered it and used to say that the worse event of the tragedy of Karbala took place in Damascus.

✔️ The changing of circumstances didn’t affect the Imam's determination in spreading and propagating the word for which his father had sacrificed everything i.e. awakening and reforming the Ummah of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). He strived hard through duas and the training of servants to teach the real Islam. The famous books ‘Sahifa al-Sajjadiya’ and ‘the treatise of rights’ are the masterpieces to understand Islam.

✔️ He was strong in obedience to Allah’s commands and his faith, even in dire circumstances, didn’t wither. He worshipped Allah to the extent that he was known as Zayn al-Abidin (the pearl of the worshippers) amongst the angels and the people.

Alas, that the enemies of Islam and peace didn’t let the Imam stay long and poisoned him at the age of 54 years.

We ask Allah to help us understand the true teachings of Islam and to Hasten the reappearance of our Imam and to help us be amongst his sincere followers.
