Marriage is one of the most important institutions in Islam. It completes a major part of our faith. Children born out of a marriage built upon the principles of Islam bear fruits that are a source of peace and honor in both worlds.

One such marriage that will never be repeated was between Imam Ali and Lady Fatimah (peace be upon them). The groom, the best man after the Prophet, and the bride, the best of women the world ever witnessed.  The fruits of this marriage illuminated the world. The chain of divine guidance in the form of Imams began from the lineage of this blessed couple. Indeed, this marriage was a manifestation of divine will.

Many influential Arabs came to the Prophet seeking permission to marry his daughter, but the Prophet denied them saying that the marriage of Fatimah (peace be upon her) awaits divine permission. People told Imam Ali (peace be upon him) to approach the Prophet for the same.

The Imam did not have the wealth nor the possessions of the standards of the age of ignorance. However, he had something which they did not i.e. strong faith and values built upon the teachings of Islam. Therefore, when the Prophet put forth the proposal to her daughter, she remained silent gesturing her consent in the modest of ways.

This marriage is an example for all men and women seeking to start their common life. For men, wealth and material possession are not the necessary conditions for a new beginning. For Women, to seek the quality of faith and Islamic values before and above anything else.

On this auspicious occasion, we pray to Allah to help the youth get married and have progeny which would be a source of pride for them and a source of help to the Imam of our time, Imam al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance)
